Shelter dogs can only love you back if you adopt them!
Dogs are man's supposed best friend. While plenty of people own dogs there is only limited space at the shelters that can't hold all of them. Usually, if a dog isn't adopted it is euthanized. There are certain breeds of dogs that are especially unlucky when it comes to being adopted because of harmful stereotypes that decrease their odds of adoption. In this upcoming list, I discuss the top 5 most common dogs found in animal shelters around the US. This data was gathered into an article through the Petfinder website which displays the statistics for most common breeds found in shelters across the country.
Top 5 most common dog breeds to find in a shelter
American Pit Bull Terrier
This breed of dog is wrongly known for being hyper aggressive
Pitbulls when adopted by a loving human can be even sweeter than purebreads
Labrador Retriever
This breed of dog is the most popular dog breed in the US because breeders are constantly producing them for profit.
Labradors dont have any common harmful stereotypes.
Labradors are known to be great family dogs.
Chihuahua
Chihuahuas are the third most common dog located in shelters across the US.
This breed of dog is know for being extremely yippy and obnoxious, but mostly because they arent usually trained well enough.
Boxer
This breed of dog is commonly placed within shelters because of their high energy and activity levels
Most families dont have enough time to properly care for them and then bring them to shelters
If you love a dog that you can exercise with then this is the breed for you!
German Shepherd
This breed of dog is also abundent within the US due to high breeding levels
Stereotypes about this dog being aggressive are untrue if the dog is properly raised in a good home
German Shepherds can be extremely loving and loyal if they are trained right!
Every year shelters must make space for new dogs and cats by euthanizing older ones in their possession. They do this because of lack of funds and/or the need to make room for new dogs who are left behind without a home or family. No one is there to give them the love and attention that they deserve. This sounds like one of those sappy commercials asking for a donation but I dont even want your money. I just want you to consider adopting from a shelter instead of supporting pure breeders the next time you think of getting a pet.
